Studio verge as a practice looks to create community level awareness and change in perception of earth construction using workshops as a medium. We have done a series of workshops in the recent past titled ‘Down to Earth’. The workshops target a young audience aged between 8-10 yrs with an aim to take children back to nature and to build with what is easily available and most indigenous to the place. We're happy to share images from this process involving 45+ children coming to site and looking at concepts such as soil type, soil colour, lay of land, kuccha, pukka, impact of natural elements on building, naturally available material, earth architecture etc were discussed. The participants were also taken through a live example of COBB construction and were trained to mix and stabilise soil to build 18” thick COBB walls. This activity also encouraged the young minds to explore alternative lifestyles that are a blend of contemporary life choices adapted to a more sustainable style of living.
